SAMSUNG Introduces High Performance Plasma HDTVs At CES 2009

Samsung Electronics America, Inc.,, a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, has unveiled two series of advanced plasma HDTVs. Delivering full HD 1080p resolution, increased energy efficiency, breath-taking design and deeper levels of black performance, Samsung’s latest plasma line sets a new standard of excellence in the Plasma HDTV category.
The entire line-up will be on display at Booth #11033 during the International Consumer Electronics Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 8 – 11, 2009.
“Samsung is taking bold steps forward with its 2009 plasma line-up,” said Steve Panosian, director of Visual Display Marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “By combining superior picture quality, energy efficiency and networking options with the latest audio-visual technologies, the Series 8 and 6 plasmas are sure to become the model of excellence in plasma HDTVs.”
Luxurious DesignMeasuring just over an inch in depth, Samsung’s Series 8 Plasma HDTVs is the world’s slimmest 1080p resolution plasma sets to feature built-in ATSC tuners.
Featuring a New ToC™ treated chassis, the Series 8 sports a chrome-like translucent surface, which encases the bezel. This unique treatment contrasts the TV’s black bezel to enhance its ultra-slim depth. Additionally, the outer edges of the bezel resemble a prism, magnifying light in such a way that its color intensity changes depending on the viewing angle.
In the case of the Series 6, a specially-designed, semi-transparent rose black hue lends a seductive hint of color to the TV’s glass-like frame. Each of the HDTV’s gracefully curved edges is transparent, creating the illusion of a display floating in mid-air. Further enhancing the design, the sets are also supported by a clear, reinforced glass stand giving it a “barely there” appearance.
Breathtaking Picture QualityDespite their slim design, Samsung’s Plasma HDTVs harness the latest display technology to produce unmatched picture performance and deliver the ultimate in HDTV viewing experience.
These advancements include an extremely high dynamic contrast ratio along with Ultra FilterBright technology, which uses arrays of black-coated color enhancement film to minimize glare and maximize contrast. Additionally, Samsung’s Ultra Filter Bright Plus reduces the luminance in black levels by 50 percent over previous models for one of the darkest blacks ever seen on an HDTV.
And Samsung’s exclusive Wide Color Enhancer 3 maps HD or SD signals to the panel’s native color space, which covers 110 percent of the HD specification, helping the set portray hues in lifelike brilliance.
Sophisticated Multimedia and Networking SkillsThe Series 8 and 6 plasma HDTVs are also equipped with the Internet@TV – Content Service platform that brings the best of the Web to the television. Powered by the innovative Yahoo! Widget Engine, Samsung’s Internet TV – Content Service enables users to access internet based multimedia content from their favorite Internet sources . They’ll not only be able to take care of everyday tasks like tracking stocks and staying on top of headline news, but users can also browse videos, share photos and interact with friends. The suite of services ranges from a host of Yahoo! properties (Flickr, News, Weather and Finance) to third-party content from well-known names including USA Today, YouTube and eBay.

The ultimate test of all plasma TV's is how well they show when they are actually tested for video quality. Forget the native pixel resolution, the built in converter/scalar, the sometimes-unrealistic contrast ratio listed by the manufacturer. The manufacturer that wants to sell their product provides the specifications. Comparing TV's of any kind side by side with the same input signal playing the same video material at the same moment is the way to truly understand how the signal information is received, converted and shown to the naked eye. With plasma display monitor the differences are sometimes much more pronounced than with other types of televisions.
Sony has changed a few key elements from previous models 500A3W and 510A2W with the new Sony 42B1U. First, they have decreased the width of the unit to 3.5" in depth while still maintaining a very sturdy bezel/chassis (this has also reduced the weight of the unit to 65 pounds. Secondly, Sony has reduced the number of inputs to some bare minimums. They have taken out all the BNC connections for RGB and Component use and opted for 15 pin VGA-style inputs. Next, the amplifiers were taken out leaving the unit without optional speakers for the sides. Lastly, in making these changes to cut some corners they have made the unit more affordable by coming down to a list price of $7999 and with recent prices of around $5699

Our flagship 16-channel premium analog mixer, with 24-bit/96kHz FireWire I/O capabilities.
The goal for Mackie's flagship Onyx series of small-format mixers was to bring premium analog sound, expanded features, and streaming FireWire connectivity to both recording and live sound environments. To pull all this off, we started with a team of veteran audio product engineers from the great Pacific Northwest (aka Woodinville, Washington). The Onyx team quickly set out by specifying the highest-quality analog components--from premium op-amps to IC chips costing exponentially more than previous designs. In many cases, we developed components completely from scratch. With Greg Mackie himself steering Onyx mixer layout and design, we took a "real world" approach to the entire process.
Because a great mixer starts with great mic preamps, we invested significant R&D efforts into developing our new flagship Onyx mic preamps. These preamps build upon our already-impressive XDR design to meet or surpass expensive esoteric standalone mic pres in terms of fidelity, headroom and transparency—as well as improved radio frequency (RFI) rejection and wider dynamic range.
When it was time for the Onyx EQ section, we turned to veteran audio engineer Cal Perkins to develop our new Perkins EQ circuitry—a "neo classic" 3- and 4-band design based on classic "British EQ" circuitry from mixing desks of the '60s and '70s. Cal devised a way to give Perkins EQ that sweet "British console" sound, but with greater filter control and minimum phase shift.
We rounded out the Onyx 1640 feature set by answering some common requests from our compact mixer customers: adding individual 48v phantom power and balanced direct outputs on every channel; a full Auxiliary section with Pre/Post control; and a new Talkback section with a convenient built-in mic. We even developed a "Planet Earth" switching power supply for worldwide use.
In the category of "Why didn't someone think of this sooner?", we gave the Onyx 1640 an optional FireWire I/O card, which bridges the analog-to-digital gap by providing up to 18 independent channels of high-quality 24-bit/96kHz audio that you can plug right into your FireWire-equipped Mac or PC. And bring a stereo mix back from your computer for monitoring purposes.

Sony's new BRAVIA LCD models, with IVL support

In addition to new micro-displays and the Internet Video Link streaming device, Sony also announced seven BRAVIA LCD sets today. There are two 1080p-capable displays in 40- and 46-inch sizes (KDL-46V3000 and KDL-40V3000), three 720p sets in 26, 40, and 46 inches (KDL-26S3000, KDL-40S3000, and KDL-46S3000), and a pair of 32-inch models (KDL-32S3000 and KDL-32XBR4). The V-series 1080p sets can accept 1080/60p and 24p signals via their HDMI or component inputs, and have the advanced Bravia EX engine for higher-quality upconversion. The 32-inch XBR model has three of the 1080/60p/24p HDMI inputs, and uses Sony's Motionflow 120Hz motion compensation, which creates unique frames to help eliminate blurring and motion artifacts. All the sets have 10-bit color for more capable color gradients, Bravia's video processing engine, and Theatre Sync for control connection between compatible devices. The displays also utilize Sony's XMB Xross Media Bar interface. The XBR and S-series models will be available this spring, while the other sets will come out in the summer -- pricing has not been announced for any of these models

Netbook

A netbook (a portmanteau of Internet and notebook) is a class of laptop computer designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet.[1]
Primarily designed for web browsing and e-mailing, netbooks "rely heavily on the Internet for remote access to web-based applications"[2] and are targeted increasingly at cloud computing users who require a less powerful client computer.[3]. Netbooks typically run either Linux or Windows XP[2] rather than more resource-intensive operating systems like Windows Vista[4]. The devices range in size from below 5 inches[5] to over 13,[6], typically weigh 2 to 3 pounds and are often significantly cheaper than general purpose laptops.[2]
